Will be required to work directly with R&D in the development of table top concepts of equipment including simple automation and vision. In this role, you will collaborate with the design team to create
complex mechanisms and lightweight assemblies. This position's primary responsibility will be to develop conceptual and detailed CAD designs, drawings, and related documentation, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
Your focus will be on deriving innovative designs based on user needs and product requirements. This Development Engineer will play a key role in expanding the capabilities and services offered by our Technical Life Cycle Management department. This position requires a fast-paced approach, involving the design, ordering, and qualification of tooling and capital equipment for the reprocessing of medical devices. This individual will work closely with Operations and
R&D teams to understand design criteria and optimize quality while increasing efficiency.
At Sterilmed, we are recognized as authorities in medical device reprocessing, focusing primarily on high-complexity devices such as electrophysiology and imaging catheters. This role will involve some travel between our manufacturing, distribution, and receiving sites located in the metro-Minneapolis area. A Day in the Life Implement and drive the growth of new manufacturing technologies to improve efficiency and productivity. Procure and qualify capital equipment, tooling, and fixtures for manufacturing processes, ensuring they meet quality and performance requirements.
Plan, organize, and manage projects related to equipment development and oversee the work of staff members, providing guidance and support as needed. Train, mentor, and lead Operators, Technicians, and junior engineers to enhance their skills and knowledge in equipment development and manufacturing processes. Stay updated on emerging manufacturing technology trends and developments, integrating them into design requirements to maintain a driven edge. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of equipment into manufacturing processes and provide valuable insights for process improvement.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors to source and evaluate new equipment, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of goods. Conduct feasibility studies and risk backssments for proposed equipment projects, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives. Required Possess a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials engineering, biosystems engineering, or equivalent experience. Demonstrate a track record of shown experience in process scale-up and development, showcasing your ability to successfully transition from laboratory-scale to manufacturing-scale processes.
Accumulate a minimum of six years of relevant work experience in equipment development engineering or a related field, demonstrating your expertise and competence in the field. Use strong technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to design, develop, and optimize equipment for manufacturing processes, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety. Adhere to regulatory requirements, quality standards, and safety protocols throughout the equipment development process, ensuring compliance and mitigating risks.
Preferred Experience in an R&D design, process development and/or manufacturing engineering role in the medical device industry. Proficient experience with PLCs, visions systems, optics, and automation Proven track record working well in a team environment and learning from others.
