Summary: MITRE’s Electronic Systems Development and Embedded Security department is seeking to hire talented and creative software reverse engineers with a focus on embedded software security to support advanced research and development projects of national significance.

Qualified candidates will join a team of technical experts in embedded software security. This team performs hands-on software security backssments and builds proof-of-concept prototypes that demonstrate and advance the state-of-the-art in embedded software security. entry-level position will develop and apply their technical expertise to: Perform hands-on software security backssments of embedded systems combining static binary analysis with the latest in dynamic analysis techniques such as symbolic and concolic execution Prototype advanced capabilities in software to solve challenging sponsor problems Apply the state-of-the-art in embedded software analysis and protection techniques to secure our sponsors’ systems Research emerging threats in embedded software and countermeasures Collaborate with academic partners to improve embedded security education at our nation’s universities and high schools Minimum Qualifications: Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a related Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

Must be US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret security clearance Experience programming with C/C++ and Python Experience with assembly code programming e. g. ARM, MIPS, RISC-V, x86, or x86-64 Experience with software or firmware reverse engineering including disassemblers, decompilers, and debuggers Effective oral and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications: BS, MS, or Ph D degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar program and/or 2+ years of related experience Experience with one or more embedded security topics including but not limited to: Vulnerability and Exploitation: modern binary exploitation techniques and countermeasures, fuzzing, symbolic analysis Firmware/Software Reverse Engineering: firmware unpacking, common executable file formats Commercial embedded and/or hardware security technologies: Trusted Platform Modules, Boot Guard, Secure Boot, ARM Trust Zone, etc.

Developing low-level software (e. g. embedded systems/microcontrollers, kernels, and/or device drivers) Operating Systems: kernel architectures, kernel driver development, RTOS Computer Architecture: processor design, compiler design Cryptography: Common cryptographic algorithms and protocols, implementation attacks (i.
